This morning I walked into Ollie's room because I heard him stirring and, what to my wonder, he was sitting up in his crib!
He's still going strong with sleeping through the night. I could get used to this...In fact, I AM getting used to this. :-)

Four out of Five Nights in a Row!!
For the last four out of five nights, Roo has slept from 9:30 to 6:30. Wahooooo!!
He's still falling asleep in my arms, nursing. Then I move him to his crib, where he sleeps all night. For naps, though, I'm trying to work with him on lying down in his crib awake and seeing if he can put himself to sleep.
Baby steps, as they say. For now, I'm thrilled that, at least with respect to those sleepless newborn nights, there's a light at the end of the tunnel!

Our Little Inchworm
It's not exactly crawling, but it's getting there. I guess it's "pre-crawling."
Ollie can't quite coordinate the arms with the legs but he's got the two isolated movements going: Upper body and lower body. Or maybe he's just doing yoga, it kinda looks like that, too. :-)

Move 1. Cobra Pose. Head and shoulders up, arms straight. Probably reaching for some toy that we've put just out of reach to coax him on.

Move 2. Downward-Facing Dog Pose. Tailbone up in the air, legs straightened, and head down. He'll work those feet, trying to move forward but, alas, the arms and shoulders aren't cooperating.
He'll get it one of these days. Before you know it, he'll be tearing through the house on all fours.
Time to babyproof those cabinets, Daddy!

Cousin Page's Graduation
We celebrated Page's graduation from UNC. She and her new hubby hosted a little gathering for the family at their very-cute apartment.
I wish I'd taken more pictures...here are the only ones I managed to snap. The guest of honor isn't even in the pics. Bad Aunt Mir, bad!

Cousin Tyler looks soooooooo bored!

Aunt Rita, Nanny, and Ollie talk with family at the party.

Oops, Ollie's shoe came off!
Then We Spent the Day with Clyde and Delores
After the graduation, Nanny and Papa spent the rest of the day, the night, and part of Monday at our house getting their "grandkid fix."

Nanny gets in on the rice cereal action. Mmm, mmm.

"Open wide."

Nanny is probably going to kill me for posting pictures of her in her PJs, but here goes...!

Merrit has become quite the comedian lately. Hmmm...

We Visited Donger and Family
Merrit, Ollie, and I drove to Winston-Salem yesterday for a two-day trip to see our friends, the Hills.
"Donger" as she has lovingly been referred to (by me) since...oh, about seventh grade...flew in from California to visit her mom Candy, sister Dianne, brother-in-law Tim, and nephews, Evan and Eric. With her so close by, we just had to drive over and spend a couple of days catching up with her.
Here we are, hanging out at Dianne and Tim's house...

Dawn and Ollie meet for the first time. :-)

Eric is usually "the baby"...but he handled having Ollie horn in on his territory quite well!

Candy LOVES babies! Kiss kiss.

Ollie must just sense that he's in loving arms...he goes in for the snuggle right off the bat!

Playing with his toes in his carseat.
We Spent the Night
Before we hit the hay, we squeezed in just a little more playing...

Candy and Ollie playing together.

In our PJs and ready for bed.
And the Next Morning We Picked Strawberries
All of us headed over to the local pick-your-own strawberry farm. Mmm...

Evan and Merrit at the strawberry fields.

Ollie just watched from the shade of his carseat.

Merrit is an expert berry-picker; I'm sure he'll teach Ollie one day.

For a kid, Merrit shows such discipline; he hardly eats ANY while we pick!
The best part was the hot-from-the-oven shortcake, fresh strawberries, and vanilla ice cream we all ate when we got back home.

Sigh - Restless Nights Are Back Again
Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. Roo didn't sleep through the night last night, but if the few previous nights are any indication, I think we're getting there.
Just hang in there, Mommy, hang in there...

Rice Cereal
Roo started eating a little rice cereal this week.
Here's a recent "mealtime excerpt"...
Roo eyes the incoming spoon, grabs it with his hands, and pulls it toward his face eagerly (not always hitting his mouth, of course!). Accompanying grunts and hungry sounds ensue. Mike says: "If you eat like your brother, I'm going to have to get another job."
