He's really starting to handle textures well. Most things are still pureed, at least somewhat. He's figuring out how to "gum" his food before swallowing it.
We get the most wonderfully fresh, organic, local produce from Double T Farms, here in our hometown. Each Saturday morning, we drive over to the farm and pick up our produce for the week. We bought a half-share of the farm back in the spring, and that takes us through--with weekly fruits and veggies--to November.
Just this morning, I picked up melons, cucumbers, squash, eggplant, garlic, onions, basil, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, sandwich tomatoes, and sugar snap peas. Mmm, mmm!
I make Roo's baby food, for the most part. It's so cheap, compared to prepared/jarred baby food. Especially once you start comparing conventional vs. organic baby food!! I can buy organic veggies and fruits, cook them, puree them, and freeze them for a fraction of the cost. The hardest part: Finding ice cube trays! Seriously...it was a challenge to find some. I went to three different stores and finally posted online to Freecycle, where someone came through for me. I guess since so many people have icemakers these days, ice cube trays have become a relic!
Of course, it's always great to have a few jars of store-bought baby food for convenience sake--for weekend trips, when the family goes out to dinner, etc.

Summer squash, carrots, and broccoli/cauliflower mixture. The baby food in the ice cube trays is ready for the freezer.

Open up, little guy!
