We visited the pediatrician's office yesterday. Ollie is up to 10 pounds, 2 ounces. He's a healthy eater (just like his big brother)!
Ollie has had little red bumps on his forehead and cheeks for a few days...I first noticed them this past Sunday morning. Turns out he has baby acne. Here's what I found online:
Acne in the newborn (also known as acne neonatorum) or baby acne is a common condition that affects roughly 20 percent of newborn babies. Infants usually develop neonatal acne because of stimulation of the baby’s sebaceous glands by lingering maternal hormones after delivery. These hormones cross the placenta into your baby and after delivery they cause the oil glands on the skin to form bumps that look like pimples. To your dismay your beautiful newborn’s face breaks out with red pimples on the cheeks, forehead and chin.
Well, we're scheduled to take "the boys" to the photography studio on December 17 for their Christmas pictures, so hopefully our little guy's face will be all cleared up by then!
The other bit of news from the doctor's office is that we think our boy may be suffering from some mild reflux. We got a prescription for Zantac syrup and are going to try it to see if it helps. Merrit was on Zantac twice a day for over a year, not because he actually had reflux but because if he did spit up, aspiration was a real risk (because of his trach). We can do some other things like keeping him upright for about 30 minutes after he eats and letting him sleep in a semi-upright position (like in his carseat, swing, or on an inclined crib mattress).
