Learning His Cues

We are becoming more comfortable with Ollie every day. He's starting to let us know what his likes and dislikes are.

Like most babies, he likes to be swaddled tightly. He likes to be cradled on his side or upright, high on the shoulder. He likes to hear, "Ssshhh, ssshhh, ssshhh" while being rocked.

What doesn't he like? He really doesn't like the swing much, I have to say; he much prefers to be held by a person. He doesn't like diaper changes; he cries his head off. Sometimes he likes his bath, sometimes he doesn't.

We haven't developed an ear yet for different kinds of cries. Moms always say that they can tell the difference between their babies various cries. Since Merrit didn't make any sounds, this is a whole new thing for us. Right now, a cry is a cry. To me, "I have a wet diaper" sounds like "I'm tired." And "I'm hungry" sounds as much like "I want to be in a different position" as "I want to be picked up." :-) I'm clueless...
