Visit to the Pediatrician's Office

Today we visited Ollie's pediatrician. He's 22 pounds and healthy as a horse. I wanted to have his ears checked because he pulls at them sometimes when he's frustrated (mostly when he wants to get out of his high chair or he's getting ready to have his diaper changed...why WOULDN'T you want a fresh, clean diaper?...I just don't get that!). His ears looked fine. The doc said that he might be pulling on them as deferred pain from his gums/teething.

Ollie is cutting a fifth tooth, just to the left of his two top front teeth. I think I see its mate on the right side too, just under the gumline.

Developmentally, Roo is right on track. Over the next month, he should be starting to do these things:

Most babies should be able to . . .

  • Stand holding on to someone or something - YES

  • Walk holding onto furniture - YES

  • Pull up to standing position from sitting - YES

  • Wave goodbye- NOT YET

  • Crawl well - YOU BETCHA!

  • Use thumb and finger pincer grasp to pick things up - GETTING THERE

Some babies will probably be able to . . .

  • Say mama and dada to the right parents - NOT YET

  • Understand the word no but doesn’t always obey it - HA HA, HAVE TO LAUGH AT THIS

  • Respond to own name - DEFINITELY

  • Indicate what he or she wants with gestures other than crying - NOT YET

  • Stand alone momentarily - I'VE SEEN THIS A HANDFUL OF TIMES

Some babies could possibly be able to . . .

  • Drink from a cup independently - NOT YET

  • Stand alone well - NOPE

  • Play ball and patty cake - NOT YET

  • Walk for a step or two - WAITING FOR THIS BIG DAY!

  • Say one word other than mama or dada - NO FIRST WORDS YET...

  • Put toys or object into a container - HAS DONE THIS ALREADY, BUT PERHAPS IT'S ACCIDENTAL
